In following th6 guidelines of'tiie Endangered Species Act of 1973.'r..,;mended. a search was made <br />for threatened. endangered, or sensitive (TES) plant species in the )Yoject area. Pio federal TES <br />species are known to exist ir. file project area. <br />According to the U.S. Fish ind Wildlife Service (USFWS), Ecological Services Office in Grand <br />Junction, Colorado, 3 TES al%i 1 candidate plant species have the p itential to occur in La Plata <br />County. Knowlton's cactiss (Pediocactus lrnowltond) and Mal-maos milkve:ch (Astragalus <br />humillintus) are listed endanger ed species. Mesa Verde cactus (Scicrocactus mesa-verde) is listed <br />threatened, and Sleeping Ute_ ailkvetch (Astragalus tortipes) is a ca:, . idate species for listing. <br />No Knowlton's cactus, Mesa 1i crde cactus, Mancos mil-vetch, Sleep`-i'li Ute milkvetch, or any other <br />sensitive flora' species are ' Gown to occur on the lands above ' the proposed project area. <br />Additionally, based on previoais biological descriptions of the projer'. -rea, no habitat exists for any <br />of these TES flora species in' the project area. <br />According to tre USFWS, 7 is a=ed species have potential to occur in ":3 Plata County. These are the <br />cndangered Southwestern w:l:ow flycatcher (Encpidonax trailli cv,6.tus), the endangered Black- <br />footed ferret (Afustela nigripes ), the endangered Colorado pikeminrow (Ptychocheilus Lucius), the <br />endangered Humpback chub -':Gila cypha), the endangered Razorbac :: sucker (Xyrauchen texattus), <br />the threatened Bald eagle (F.c!iaeetus leucicephalus), the threaten:�.6 Mexican spotted owl (Stria <br />occidentalis lucida), and the candidate Western boreal toad (Bufc .7reas boreas). The recently <br />delisted Peregrine falcon (FY!'co pereginus) is also known to occr: `.n La Plata County and may <br />incidentally occur in or near =' _ : proj ect area. <br />Of the federall•; listed fauna ::;::cies with potential to occur in La P1: County, on:-, the Bald eagle <br />is known to occur in or near th-, project area. No listed fish species c .. •_ it in the project area as there <br />are no permniial surface wate_: ,esources present. Surface water dc-:.tions are not expected, and <br />therefore there will not be any impact on listed fish species. T h— Western bor-cal toad is only <br />known to occur above 8,000 : <br />
