PERMIT#: M-2000-053
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: June 1,2016
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection conducted at the Castillo Pit by DRMS representative Eric Scott. This
site is an active, 18.74 acre, 112c permit held by Las Animas County. Eric Scott met Las Animas County
representative Skeeter Mincic near the site at approximately 1550 and toured the site with him. Mining
activity was not taking place at the time of the inspection.
There does not appear to have been any recent mining activity at this site, although there was a small
stockpile of recycled asphalt present near the entrance to the site. DRMS would remind Las Animas County
that, by rule, reclamation is required to be completed within 5 years of the end of mining activity. Significant
vegetation has volunteered across much of the site at this time, and minimal work would be required in most
areas (minor earthwork and revegetation) to meet reclamation standards.
Although there was a site identification sign near the entrance to the site (see attached photo) no permit
boundary markers could be located during the inspection. As noted on page 1 of this inspection report, Las
Animas County will need to replace all permit boundary markers by June 30, 2016 and provide DRMS with
documentation that this has been completed. An aerial photo of the site area has been included to depict the
general condition of the site at this time. Approximately 10 acres appear to have been disturbed at some
point during past site operations.
Representative photos of the site identification sign and the disturbed areas are included with this report.
With the exception of the missing boundary markers, all activity appeared to be in compliance with the
approved mining plan, and no other issues requiring corrective action were observed during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Phil Dorenkamp
Las Animas County
2000 N. Linden Ave.
Trinidad, CO 81082
