PERMIT#: M-2001-015
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: June 2,2016
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection conducted at the Castillo Pit by DRMS representative Eric Scott. This
site is an active, 9.87 acre, 110c permit held by Las Animas County. Eric Scott met Las Animas County
representative Blair Weurding in Trinidad and followed him to the site at approximately 0830. Mining activity
was not taking place at the time of the inspection.
Approximately 4 acres of the permit area has been disturbed to date (see attached air photo) with the
remainder of the site undisturbed. Significant cheat-grass has established in the disturbed areas of the site
and weed control measures will need to be taken to keep this noxious species from becoming prevalent within
the permit area. Existing topsoil stockpiles should also be stabilized with appropriate vegetation if they are
not going to be utilized for reclamation this season to prevent excessive erosion and weeds.
The site identification sign near the entrance to the site (see attached photo) and permit boundary markers
were located during the inspection. As noted on page 1 of this inspection report, Las Animas County will need
to implement control measures for the cheat-grass on the site, and provide proof to DRMS that this has been
done by October 31, 2016. An aerial photo of the site area has been included to depict the general condition
of the site at this time.
Representative photos of the site identification sign, cheat-grass areas, and the currently disturbed areas are
included with this report. All activity appeared to be in compliance with the approved mining plan, and no
other issues requiring corrective action were observed during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Phil Dorenkamp
Las Animas County
2000 N.
