3.9 QUALITY CONTROL <br /> A. Testing services performed by the Contractor and Slurry Trench Specialist shall be as stipulated in Table <br /> 1 at the end of this section.The Contractor shall provide access to the Slurry Trench Specialist to collect <br /> the necessary samples to complete the required testing. <br /> B. The Contractor shall provide test equipment and a testing trailer with electricity and water for the Slurry <br /> Trench Specialist's use. Equipment for sampling and testing shall be in good condition. <br /> C. If a test fails to meet the specified criteria,another test shall be performed after Contractor has <br /> completed the necessary corrective work.Contractor shall bear the expense of all the necessary <br /> corrective action and re-tests performed. <br /> D. The Contractor shall be responsible for demonstrating to the sati ion of the Slurry Trench Specialist <br /> that the trench is continuous and keyed the minimum specifi th into the designated stratum.The <br /> Slurry Trench Specialist will be available onsite to verify th e ments.Trench continuity shall be <br /> assured by the action of movement of the trench excav n equipm uch that the digging tools can <br /> be passed vertically from top to bottom of the trenc ell as moved ontally along the axis of the <br /> trench without encountering unexcavated materi enetra ' of the bo om of the trench into the <br /> designated stratum shall be demonstrated at 10 ft r observation of the excavation spoils from <br /> the trench and by direct measurement of the top oft signated stratum and the final excavated <br /> trench depth to the satisfaction of the SI -s ch Spec <br /> E. Materials <br /> 1. Bentonite: Manufacture's ' - of C, •liance with the API specification shall be obtained <br /> from the manufacturer each •ment •entonite delivered to the site. <br /> 2. Water:Water for slur 'xin: -• once for each change in water source as shown in <br /> Table 1. <br /> 3. Supplemental ' '•le al fines shall be tested a minimum of every 200 lineal feet along <br /> the alignm- or fines . ten , plasticity index as shown in Table 1. <br /> 4. Prepared fill:Soil-be nite backfill shall be tested prior to placement in the trench by <br /> conducting to deter e slump and density. Laboratory testing of the permeability shall be <br /> conducted onc- ev- ,000 CY of backfill mixed with no fewer than 6 tests for the <br /> project.Permeabi ermination may follow placement. <br /> 5. Fresh Slurry:A comp ete series of tests shall be conducted from the mixer or tank containing fresh <br /> slurry ready for introduction in the trench at least twice per shift. <br /> 6. Trench Slurry:Slurry in the trench shall be tested at least twice per shift.Samples shall be obtained <br /> prior to the commencement of backfill placement and within 5 ft of the trench bottom. <br /> F. Quality Control Testing Equipment <br /> 1. The field laboratory shall be provided and equipped by the Contractor for use by the Slurry Trench <br /> Specialist with the following equipment,at a minimum: <br /> a. Marsh funnel and cup—1 set <br /> b. Mud balance—1 set <br /> c. Sounding cable—1 set <br /> d. Slump cone and rod—1 set <br /> e. Sand content kit—1 set <br /> f.
