It should be noted that the erosion damage to the City's agricultural property from AI's
operations include a ravine that has been cut measuring 900 feet long, up to 470 feet wide, and
up to 10 feet deep. The cutting of this ravine was caused by the increase in the velocity of water
flowing across our land during flooding events. This increased velocity is attributable to the
acceleration caused by gravel pit's steep slope. The resulting erosion is confirmed by historic
aerial imagery. If this ravine continues to develop, it may connect to the Poudre River leading to
the rechannelization of the river and flooding of Greeley neighborhoods. The City, therefore,
views this as an extremely important issue that do in- iediate attention.
The erosion on the embankment and City agric . field must be repaired and
embankment erosion protection added that can withstand the k: . Nr flood risk consistent with
this pit's presence in a well-established and recognized flood zone. Hoy • gintil AI repairs the
damage to the City property, the aforementioned risk will be present.
In making this complaint, the City of Greeley will cooperate with DRMS and provide it
with information necessary to demonstrate the damage to our property. To this end, please
contact me directly with questions or information you may require.
Best regards,
Burt Kni
Director of Water& Sewer
cc: Matt Hader, City Attorney's Office
Eric Reckentine, Deputy Director
Christie Coleman, Water Resource Engineer
