Fish Creek Soil Investigation <br /> <br />APPENDIX 3 <br />MENBAR SERIES <br />The Menbaz series consists of very deep, somewhat poorly drained soils on floodplains. They <br />formed in mixed alluvium. Slopes aze 0 to 3 percent. The mean annual precipitation is 12 to 16 <br />inches and the mean annual temperature is 38 to 43 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy, mixed, superactive Aquic Cumulic Haplocryolls <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Menbar clay loam, on a 2 percent slope -rangeland. (Colors are for dry soil <br />unless otherwise stated. <br />Al--0 to 2 inches; very dazk grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) clay loam, very dark brown (1 OYR 2/2) <br />moist; moderate very fine granulaz structure; sofr, friable, sticky and plastic; many very fine <br />roots; many very fine irregular pores; mildly alkaline (pH 7.6); clear smooth boundary. (1 to 3 <br />inches thick) <br />A2--2 to 9 inches; very dazk grayish brown (1 OYR 3/2) clay loam, very dark brown (lOYR 2/2) <br />moist; weak very coazse prismatic structure parting to moderate very fine subangulaz blocky; <br />hazd, friable, very sticky and plastic; common very fine roots; common very fine irregulaz and <br />few very fine to medium tubular pores; slightly effervescent, cazbonates disseminated; mildly <br />alkaline (pH 7.8); clear wavy boundary. (3 to 9 inches thick) <br />A3--9 to 20 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) clay loam, dark brown (lOYR 3/3) moist, few small <br />distinct dazk yellowish brown (lOYR 4/6) mottles and common small distinct white specks; weak <br />fine and very fine subangulaz blocky structure; hard, friable, very sticky and plastic; few very fine <br />roots; few very fine irregulaz and few very fine and fine tubulaz pores; slightly effervescent, <br />cazbonates disseminated; mildly alkaline (pH 7.8); abrupt wavy boundary. (8 to 20 inches thick) <br />C--20 to 60 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) and grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) stratified moderately thick <br />lenses of sandy loam, sandy clay loam and clay loam, dark brown (1 OYR 4/3) and dark grayish <br />brown (lOYR 4/2) moist, common small faint dazk yellowish brown (lOYR 4/6) mottles, 1 to 2 <br />inch thick black lenses in lower part; massive; slightly hazd, friable, slightly sticky and slightly <br />plastic; mildly alkaline (pH 7.6). <br />TYPE LOCATION: Uinta County, Wyoming; 400 feet west of NE corner of Section 34, T13N, <br />R113W. <br />RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: The mollic epipedon ranges from 16 to 37 inches thick. <br />The mean annual soil temperature is 40 to 44 degrees F. and the mean summer soil temperature <br />is 52 to 57 degrees F. The organic matter content ranges from 2 to 5 percent in the A horizon and <br />decreases irregularly with depth. The 10 to 40 inch control section has stratified textures of sandy <br />loam, loam, clay loam, silty clay loam, and sandy clay loam with an average clay content of 18 to <br />35 percent. Rock fragment content of rounded gravel and cobble is typically less than 5 percent <br />but may range from 0 to 15 percent above the 40 inch depth.
