PERMIT#: M-1977-345
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE:May 23,2016
OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection for a 110c sandstone quarry operation conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS for the
Boettcher Sandstone site at the request of the permittee (Holcim). DRMS accompanied permittee
representative Tom Newman, and USBLM representatives Stephanie Carter and William Jenkins to the site at
approximately 1120 and toured the site with them.
DRMS and Holcim requested this inspection for USBLM personnel to review and approve the final reclamation
earthwork that was approved by DRMS in November of 2015 as TR01. Because mining was never completed
at the site, TR01 was submitted to revise the initial reclamation plan which was no longer feasible due to a lack
of unconsolidated waste material.
TR01 proposed utilizing all available material at the site to minimize the steeply sloped area at the north end
of the site left behind from prior mining (approx. 1:1), and blend the disturbed area to integrate into the
surrounding landscape as well as possible. At the time of this inspection Holcim had completed the final
blending of the upper unconsolidated "lip" at the top of the slope as requested in January of 2016. The
seeding of the site for final reclamation had taken place the previous week, and seed was still visible on the
ground in areas.
The final reclamation configuration has resulted in a gradual slope up from the pit floor of approximately 2:1
with a 20-30 foot bench at the top. This bench forms the base of the existing stable 1:1 slope. This steeper,
but stable, slope is approximately 40-50 feet in width, and extends for a linear distance of approximately 250
feet at the northwest portion of the disturbance.
The site is located within the steeply dipping "hogback" area of the front-range north of Fort Collins. The
native terrain varies considerably in the area from vertical bedrock outcrops to rolling vegetated areas of
rapidly changing slope. DRMS believes that the current reclamation will be stable and blend very well with the
surrounding pre-mining topography of the area. USBLM representatives had no comments/objections to the
completed earthwork at the time of this inspection, but noted that the required claim boundary markers were
not present and would need to be replaced.
No other issues were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Mike Toelle
Holcim(US)Inc.
3500 Highway 120
Florence,CO 81226
