PERMIT#: M-1977-345 <br /> INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS <br /> INSPECTION DATE:May 23,2016 <br /> OBSERVATIONS <br /> This was an inspection for a 110c sandstone quarry operation conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS for the <br /> Boettcher Sandstone site at the request of the permittee (Holcim). DRMS accompanied permittee <br /> representative Tom Newman, and USBLM representatives Stephanie Carter and William Jenkins to the site at <br /> approximately 1120 and toured the site with them. <br /> DRMS and Holcim requested this inspection for USBLM personnel to review and approve the final reclamation <br /> earthwork that was approved by DRMS in November of 2015 as TR01. Because mining was never completed <br /> at the site, TR01 was submitted to revise the initial reclamation plan which was no longer feasible due to a lack <br /> of unconsolidated waste material. <br /> TR01 proposed utilizing all available material at the site to minimize the steeply sloped area at the north end <br /> of the site left behind from prior mining (approx. 1:1), and blend the disturbed area to integrate into the <br /> surrounding landscape as well as possible. At the time of this inspection Holcim had completed the final <br /> blending of the upper unconsolidated "lip" at the top of the slope as requested in January of 2016. The <br /> seeding of the site for final reclamation had taken place the previous week, and seed was still visible on the <br /> ground in areas. <br /> The final reclamation configuration has resulted in a gradual slope up from the pit floor of approximately 2:1 <br /> with a 20-30 foot bench at the top. This bench forms the base of the existing stable 1:1 slope. This steeper, <br /> but stable, slope is approximately 40-50 feet in width, and extends for a linear distance of approximately 250 <br /> feet at the northwest portion of the disturbance. <br /> The site is located within the steeply dipping "hogback" area of the front-range north of Fort Collins. The <br /> native terrain varies considerably in the area from vertical bedrock outcrops to rolling vegetated areas of <br /> rapidly changing slope. DRMS believes that the current reclamation will be stable and blend very well with the <br /> surrounding pre-mining topography of the area.
