SPECIFICATION NUMBER: <br /> Climax Molybdenum CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION 03 30 00 SPE <br /> AFreeport-McMoRanCompany TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION PROJECT NAME: <br /> CAVR Shaft Closure Project <br /> 2. Failure of Test Specimens: When test specimens made, cured, and tested <br /> fail as above defined,the Engineer may request one or more ofthe following <br /> actions be taken: <br /> a. Additional Wet Curing: The Contractor shall wet cure the structure <br /> in accordance with a plan approved by the Engineer. <br /> b. Testing of Cored Specimens: The Engineer will specify the location <br /> where each core specimen shall be taken. At least 3 cores shall be <br /> taken from each portion of the structure for which cast test <br /> specimens have failed. <br /> i. Specimens will be taken, prepared and tested in accordance <br /> with ASTM C42 and ACI 301. Cored specimens shall be <br /> 1 tested no earlier than 48 hours and no later than 7 days after <br /> coring unless otherwise authorized by the Engineer. <br /> ii. Where cored specimens fail as defined in Section 3.0313313, <br /> the Contractor shall strengthen or replace the structure in <br /> accordance with a plan approved by the Engineer. <br /> C. Replacement: The Contractor shall replace the deficient portions of <br /> the structure in accordance with a plan approved by the Engineer. <br /> i <br /> C. Slump Tests <br /> 1. Slump tests will be made in accordance with ASTM C143. <br /> F 2. Slump tests will be made from samples taken in accordance with <br /> ASTM C 172. <br /> 3. The entrained air content of fresh concrete shall be determined in <br /> accordance with ASTM C231. <br /> i <br /> D. Inspection <br /> i <br /> 1. The Contractor shall notify the Engineer and/or Owner a minimum of 8 <br /> working hours prior to anticipated start of placement of concrete. The <br /> Contractor shall conduct inspections of the following items and provide <br /> & written documentation of such inspection to the Engineer prior to placing <br /> any concrete. The following items shall be subject to inspection,but are not <br /> limited to: formwork location, dimensions, adequacy and support; <br /> reinforcement sizes, location, tying, support, splicing and cleanliness; the <br /> condition and adequacy of all placement equipment including pumps, <br /> 114-910345 CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION <br /> Climax CAVR Shaft Closure Project 03 30 00 SPE-25 <br />
