PERMIT#: M-1980-022
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM
INSPECTION DATE: March 10,2016
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The Preston Pit Extension is located approximately 1 mile west of Grand
Junction, Colorado in Mesa County.
The pit is currently not active, besides the removal of stockpiles and in final reclamation. The site was graded
exceptionally well and the reclaimed slopes tie into the adjacent undisturbed slopes in a very natural looking
way. All reclaimed slopes appear to be no steeper than the required 3H:1V except for one area on the north
part of the lake. The slopes are more of a 1H:1V- 2H:1V. This section will need to be re-graded.The pond area
makes for a wonderful wildlife habitat with well established wetland vegetation species.
In 2012 there was a Technical Revision to incorporate a permanent residence and a baech/picnic area within
the permit area. This was approved by the Division.
There were no problems at the time of inspection.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the inspection are included at the end of this report.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, phone no. 970-242-5025.
