NEW ELK COAL
COMPANY
May 17, 2016
Rob Zuber
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Rm. 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Lorencito Canyon Mine Permit C-1996-084
Application for a Permit Revision
Dear Mr. Zuber:
Enclosed is an application for a revision to the Lorencito Canyon Mine permit. Lorencito
ponds were designed for providing sediment during active mining operations with worst
case criteria for calculation of flow rates and sediment loading reporting to each of the
ponds.
Exhibit 15 Figure 14 has been revised based on the also included Sedcad demonstrations
supporting existing condition of reclamation at the mine site. The predicted 10 -year 24-
hour flow and and sediment load have decreased considerably. The end result is that the
pond sediment capacity is considerably increased extending the time period before
sediment removal is required.
A proposed public notice is enclosed in case the Division deems this a Technical rather
than a minor revision.
Re ards, ,
M 1
Ron Thompson
Agent
12250 Hwy 12 PHONE (719) 859-0111
Weston, CO 81091 FAX ((719) 868-0044
E-MAIL ronthompson@newelkcoal.com
