Site SWGS-05 was added on the upstream end of Cottonwood Creek in 1993. Site SWGS-05
and SWGS-02 are both upstream in Cottonwood Creek and are both above the projected angle
of draw of the mine workings. Monitoring of Site SWGS-05 ceased effective August 1999, and
monitoring of sites SWGS-01, SWGS-02 and SWGS-03 have been discontinued with the
approval of SL -8 and TR -67 in 2015.
Monitoring on Coal Creek and Jerry Creek was started in 1995. Discussions with DRMS
indicated that there was no need to monitor the upstream locations, SWGS 07 and 09. The flow
continued to be monitored at the lower monitoring points, SWGS 06 and 08. The locations are
shown on Exhibit 56. The ephemeral flow in Coal Canyon was measured at culverts located
between the two refuse disposal areas, SWGS 06. These culverts provided a stable cross
section and were accessible throughout the year. A rating chart for the culverts is shown on
Table 18-6. The intermittent flow in Jerry Creek was measured at the culvert near the Highline
Canal, SWGS 08. Beginning July 1999, instantaneous flows were monitored monthly. Peak
flows were estimated from the flow marks in the culverts as well as chalk marks on the culverts
through 1999 when this monitoring was discontinued. All monitoring of site SWGS 08 ceased
effective September 2011 with the approval of TR -62 and monitoring of site SWGS 06 ceased
with the approval of SL -8 and TR -67 in 2015.
The annual monitoring of the springs and seeps described in the hydrologic section of this
permit application was initiated in 1995 and discontinued effective 2006.
TR -67 18-3 Rev 11/15
