PRODUCTION <br />(Table A-14) <br />Total herbaceous production in 2015 was 515.7 pounds per acre, all of which was allowable herbaceous <br />production. Of this, 355.1 pounds were native perennial cool season grasses and 146.3 pounds were <br />native perennial forbs. Three other lifeforms, introduced annual and biennial forbs, introduced annual <br />grasses, and native annual and biennial forbs were present at less than 15 pounds per acre. <br />2015 Western Wheatgrass /Alkali Sagebrush Extended Reference Area <br />(Photographs 109 through 132) <br />COVER <br />(Table A-15) <br />Native perennial cool season grasses were the predominant lifeform observed in the Western <br />Wheatgrass/ Alkali Sagebrush ERA, contributing 26.3 percent vegetation cover. Many native perennial <br />cool season grasses were present with western wheatgrass (13.6 percent) as the dominant species. <br />Native perennial forbs, native shrubs, and native annual and biennial forbs followed with 9.3, 8.6, and 6.0 <br />percent cover, respectively. Native perennial (orbs were comprised of many species none of which were <br />dominant. Big sagebrush (4.0 percent) and alkali sagebrush (Artemisia arbuscula ssp. longiloba, 2.5) <br />were the dominant native shrub spices, with 8 other species contributing less than 1.0 percent to <br />vegetation cover. Native annual and biennial forbs were dominated by bigfruit willowherb (Epilobium <br />brachycarpum, 3.6 percent) and gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa, 1.9 percent). Introduced annual and <br />biennial forbs, introduced annual grasses, introduced perennial cool season grasses, introduced <br />perennial forbs and succulents were present, each with 3.0 percent cover or less. Native subshrubs and <br />bryophytes were also present. Also observed in the area were the B -List noxious weed species hound's <br />tongue (0.1 percent cover) and the C -List species cheatgrass (1.0 percent cover). <br />Total average all -hit vegetation cover was 55.8 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous vegetation cover <br />was 40.5 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 0.4, 28.0, 20.2, and 0.3 <br />percent, respectively (first hit). Average species density was 23.9 species per 100 sq. m. <br />21 <br />
