Total average all -hit vegetation cover was 128.6 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous vegetation cover
was 54.2 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 1.0, 11.5, 4.7, and 1.0
percent, respectively (first hit). Average species density was 30.3 species per 100 sq. m.
PRODUCTION
(Table A-10)
Total herbaceous production in 2015 was 524.6 pounds per acre, all of which was allowable herbaceous
production. Of this, 294.4 pounds were native perennial cool season grasses and 215.9 pounds were
native perennial forbs. Three other lifeforms were present at less than 11 pounds per acre.
2015 Sagebrush Extended Reference Area
(Photographs 73 through 92)
COVER
(Table A-11)
Native shrubs were the predominant lifeform observed in the Sagebrush ERA, contributing 50.4 percent
vegetation cover. Of this, mountain snowberry contributed 27.7 percent, big sagebrush contributed 18.1
percent, and seven other species were present with less than 3.0 percent cover each. Native perennial
cool season grasses and native perennial forbs made strong contributions to vegetation cover, with 22.4
and 17.3 percent, respectively. Native perennial cool season grasses were comprised of many species,
of which Agassiz bluegrass (10.5 percent) and slender wheatgrass (Elymus trachycaulus, 3.3 percent)
were the greatest contributors. Native perennial forbs were also comprised of many species, of which
western yarrow (3.4 percent), (Heliomeris multiflora, 3.2 percent), and (Agastache urticifolia, 2.2 percent)
were the greatest contributors. Introduced annual grasses, introduced perennial cool season grasses,
native annual and biennial forbs, introduced annual and biennial forbs, and bryophytes were present with
less than 1.5 percent vegetation cover each. Introduced perennial forbs were also present. Also
observed in the area were the B -List noxious weed hound's tongue (0.2 percent cover) and the C -List
species cheatgrass (0.8 percent cover).
Total average all -hit vegetation cover was 92.6 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous vegetation cover
was 41.3 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 2.3, 19.9, 6.6, and 0.2
percent, respectively (first hit).
