Fenced woody plant density concentration areas identified as aspen sites must exceed 945 stems per
acre of which 150 stems will be aspen (Populus tremuloides).
Fenced and un -fenced woody plant density concentration areas identified as riparian sites must exceed
945 stems per acre of which 150 stems will be tree or tall shrub species. Species considered as "tall
shrubs" in this report include Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia), chokecherry (Padus
virginiana ssp. melanocarpa), Gambel's oak (Quercus gambelit), willow (Salix sp.), and silver buffaloberry
(Shepherdia argentea).
Fenced woody plant density concentration areas identified as upland woody plant sites must exceed 945
stems per acre.
Shrub data will be collected during both of the bond release testing years.
The location of fenced woody plant concentration areas in the BRB-3 were established by SCC. All other
un -fenced portions of the BRB-3 were labeled as "background" density. Should the "background" density
fall below the 1000 stems per acre standard, areas labeled as "volunteer" density (totaling at least 10% of
the unfenced bond release block acreage) were determined by field mapping and assisted by aerial
photography (Routt County DOQQ 2011). These areas were apparently (visually) greater than or equal
to 1000 stems per acre (one quarter shrub per mZ; 25 shrubs per 100 m2) and include any non -fenced
remnants of woody plant density concentration areas planted by SCC. The sample size of quantitative
density data collected in each area in 2015 can be found below (Table 1, below)
Table 1.
