administered Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) for the nearby town of Hayden (Station
053867) were used.
RESULTS
Numerical data are found in Tables 1 through 6 of Appendix 1. Sample data from the 2014
revegetation monitoring studies at the Peabody Sage Creek Mine are presented in Tables 1 and
2. Sampling data are summarized in Table 3. Data on species density by lifeform are tabulated
for sampled areas in Table 4. Data on relative cover by lifeform are compiled in Table 5.
Statistical adequacy of sampling is reviewed in Table 6. The list of plant species observed during
these studies (reclaimed and reference areas) is included as Table 7 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes
used in the reclamation areas are included for reference in Appendix 3. Photographs of
representative locations within the reclaimed areas sampled in 2014, as well as photographs of
the Sagebrush/Snowberry Reference area, are included in Appendix 4. Graphs of vegetation and
climate data are presented in Figures 1 through 8 of this report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit' during point -
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute all -hit data only. Percentages are
rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
BRB PSCM -3
(Photographs 1 and 2)
COVER
(Table 1)
Introduced perennial cool season grasses and native perennial cool season grasses were the
predominant lifeforms observed in the BRB PSCM-3, contributing 26.4 and 12.9 percent all -hit
vegetation cover respectively. Introduced perennial cool season grass cover was composed
mostly of sheep fescue (Festuca ovina), intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium), and
smooth brome (Bromopsis inermis). Native perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly
composed of thickspike wheatgrass (Elymus lanceolatus ssp. lanceolatus), western wheatgrass
(Pascopyrum smithii), creeping wildrye (Leymus triticoides), basin wildrye (Leymus cinereus), and
big bluegrass (Poa secunda ssp. juncifolia). Native shrubs, predominately big sagebrush
(Artemisia tridentata) comprised 4.1 percent all -hit cover. Frequently present but providing
7
