My husband
moved here at the age of eight. We have spent our entire work careers in Colorado and
specifically working nearly 40 years in El Paso County. I was diagnosed with COPD some years
ago and found that breathing in a city environment was becoming more and more difficult for
me. I constantly struggled with pneumonia and bronchitis. My doctor advised that I move out of
the city. Therefore, my husband and I chose to move to Little Turkey Creek Road in 2012. Since
that time, my breathing has improved dramatically as a direct result of living in an area free of
air pollution and damaging particulates. We have worked our entire lives to be able to retire in a
remote, pollution-free area. Not just free of air pollution, but also free of noise and light
pollution.
The silica dust and other mineral dust that would result from the proposed Transmit Mix
Quarry would put my health and well-being into jeopardy. We believe, given examples from
other similar situations, that our property values would be negatively impacted. We simply don't
have the resources to absorb the projected loss in our home's value if we sold our property and
relocated. Staying would not be an option, as I cannot live in an area with silica and other
mineral particulates in the air. We would like the opportunity to provide documentation to that
end to the board at the hearing.
Additionally,we did not retire to a beautiful and expensive wooded area to live with dust,
explosions, and the destruction of natural beauty. Transit Mix has historically not been a good
neighbor in the areas of the Quarries it currently operates. They have left horrendous scars on the
front range that will take hundreds of areas to recover, and have faced numerous lawsuits for
