Fall 2015 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mininq Areas
3.11.1 Location 2
The fall 2015 field visit to MVB E5-20 pad represented the first observations following longwall
mining beneath this area as occurred in the first half of September. Observations made during this
visit found four large parallel subsidence cracks oriented in a N5°W direction with an approximate
offset of 10 to 40 feet from the other. The first of these cracks is on the access road approximately
30 feet east of the pad. The second and third cracks are where the access road and pad meet (see
Figure 3). These cracks have an offset from each other of about 10 feet. The fourth crack is
approximately 40 feet further west and crosses the pad near the fenced area for the operating
methane pump. The maximum length of the western crack is a nearly a continuous 135 feet. This
crack ends north of the pad and had a maximum width of 14 inches and maximum depth of about
6 feet. Some of the observed cracks bifurcate in places creating mini graben -like features that tend
to exaggerate the width of the crack. The E -seam overburden depth at this location is 450 feet.
831-032.797 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 11
March 2016
