Fall 2015 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mininq Areas
Panels E3, E4, and E5 as well as unmined portions of E -seam Longwall Panel E6 (see Maps 1 and
2). The E -seam overburden depth along this traverse varies from slightly less than 700 feet to
almost 900 feet. Photographic Observation Points 2 and 3 are located along this traverse.
Subsidence features had previously been observed along the northern portion of this traverse dating
back to spring of 2012 during mining of E -seam Longwall Panel E3. No evidence of these
subsidence cracks could be identified during the fall 2015 field visit.
The southern portion of this traverse (south of Dry Fork) currently provides access to five MVB
pads including E4-12, E4-13, E4-14, E5-15, E5-16, and E6-12 (see Map 1). At the time of our fall
2015 field visit, mining had occurred beneath each of these pads. The MVB pads and access road
to E4-12 and E4-13 had been reclaimed at the time or our field visit. In addition, MVB pad E4-
14 had also been reclaimed, thus eliminating Photographic Observation Point 3. Subsidence cracks
previously observed along the access road to MVB pad E4-14 were no longer evident but cracks
on the hillside to the west remain identifiable but show continued weathering.
Traverse F -F' continues southward up Poison Gulch across mined E -seam Longwall Panel E5 and
unmined E -seam Longwall Panel E6. This traverse passes USFS Water Resources Pond P95
where a side access road leads west and then north to the large MVB E5-16 pad. A previously -
observed slump on the cut slope side of the road leading to this pad remains evident but shows
signs of weathering and healing. Subsidence cracks noted on the MVB E5-16 pad are discussed
in more detail below as Location 1.
Farther south, Traverse F -F continues to provide access to MVB E5-16 and MVB E6-12. No
observed subsidence -related features were observed along the access road to MVB E5-12 or on
the pad. Drilling was underway at MVB E6-12 at the time of our fall 2015 field visit so this
location was not observed.
During the fall 2014 field visit, a photographic panorama was obtained looking east from the MVB
E5-16 pad showing evidence of an apparent historic slope failure on the east side of Poison Gulch
opposite this pad. Additional images obtained during the fall 2015 field visit show no change in
this area.
831-032.797 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 7
March 2016
