DETAILED SITE INSPECTION OBSERVATIONS
GENERAL COMPLIANCE The site is in compliance with its current mining and reclamation plan.
The modification to the site's access road has been approved by BLM.This
mod will re-direct a section of the road across BLM land so as to avoid
SITE DEVELOPMENT future access disputes between the operator and the adjoining private
Q landowner. As the modification has just been approved, no site
zdevelopments have taken place.
Q The site is operational year-round; although, production depends on the
z OPERATIONAL PHASE demand for their material.
0
a The site has only undergone minor reclamation, as they are still fully
2 RECLAMATION STATUS
operational.
v (TOPSOIL,ROADS,ETC.)
w
The site's roads are well compacted and don't show any signs of significant
06
w EROSION/SEDIMENTATION erosion or sedimentation. The operator has installed a concrete wall along
z
the quarry's northern highwall to prevent further sloughing from rains.
EXPLOSIVES No explosives are stored on site.
SAFETY No problems with safety were noted at the time of the inspection.
ENGINEERING/GEOLOGIC&STABILITY The slopes and site appear stable for the given material. The northern
CONDITIONS highwall has been re-enforced to prevent sloughing.
OTHER LOCAL/STATE/ FEDERAL REQ. & DRMS sign was posted and the operation appeared to be in compliance
COMPLIANCE with all other state and federal regulations.
• 1 was met onsite by one of Colorado Quarries' operators (Keith)
• The operator is still actively mining federal minerals
• When they were not crushing material, the operator was staging
the fines at the upper staging area, ensuring the fines pile did not
reach the conveyor belt. Additional fines are stored in stockpiles
along the site's access road at a lower staging area.
• Material is first crushed by a Jaw Crusher and then carried to the
screen by conveyor belts. Fines are immediately sorted out, and the
final % inch material is taken by conveyor to the product pile.
Crushed material that is larger than the% inch screen is taken to a
secondary Cone Impact crusher and re-screened.This process is
OTHER OBSERVATIONS/NOTES intensive in order to meet the standards for aquarium rock.
• There appeared to be a leak (see photo 9 and 10) near the site's
fuel truck, oil drums, and port-a-potty. The source of this leak was
unclear, and the majority of the ground surface was frozen during
the inspection.
• The leak was approximately 15 meters long by 1.7 meters (at most)
wide. Assuming a thickness of 1/3 inch (0.0085 meters), the spill
volume is—0.217 m3, or 57.3 gallons.
• If the leak is coming from the oil drums, gasoline truck, or port-a-
potty, the operator needs to see that this spill is properly cleaned
as soon as possible.
