April 15, 2016
Mr. Michael Cunningham AGGREGATE
Division of Reclamation, Mining& Safety INDUSTRIES
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 RECEWED
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Permit No. M-1977-141 —Lyons Quarry APR 19 2016
Corrective Action Extension Request DMSION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
Dear Michael:
Aggregate Industries requests an extension of time to respond to two corrective action items
identified in the Division's report of its March 2, 2016 inspection. Revegetation and Sediment
Control were cited as problems requiring action by April 18, 2016. Based on the following, we
are requesting an extension to May 2, 2016.
With regard to controlling State listed noxious weeds, Aggregate will develop a weed control
and management plan since, as you state in your report, there apparently is not a weed control
plan on file with the Division. Aggregate's weed contractor, Foothills Vegetation, contacted
Boulder County Resource Management Division's weed coordinator, Steve Sauer,to discuss and
arrange for a site assessment. Steve's only response was that there is no way to access until the
road and bridge are repaired. As you and I discussed by phone, Aggregate will go ahead and
prepare a basic plan, which will be based on weed control activities that were being conducted at
the site prior to the September 2013 flood. The plan will be submitted as a technical revision by
May 2.
Christine Felz from Aggregate communicated with you regarding proposed stormwater/erosion
control measures, which would include use of silt fence, hay bales or other temporary BMP's to
divert runoff and filter stormwater that does flow to the river. Christine advised that you
responded that these control methods would be sufficient to address the Sediment Control
corrective action. Arrangements have been made with LT Environmental to install the BMPs
and take pictures as required by the corrective action. They were scheduled for Monday, April
18, but due to pending weather concerns they are rescheduling.
Both of the above corrective actions require access to the site which, until the road and bridge are
Aggregate Industries
West Central Region,Inc.
1687 Cole Boulevard,Suite 300
Golden,CO 80401
Telephone:303-985-1070 An Equal Opportunity Employer
