Greg Lewicki And Associates, PLLC
11541 Warrington Court Phone. (303) 346-5196 Fax(303)-346-6934
Parker, CO USA 80138 E-Nlail: info(dlewicki.biz
April 13, 2016 RECIWED
Michael Cunningham APR 13 2016
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Rm 215 DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
Denver, CO 80203 MINING AND SAFETY
RE: Detroit City Mine; DRMS File No. P-2016-002; 2111 Notice of Deficiencies Response
On April 13, 2016, Colorado Calumet Co., Inc. received the Division's second notice of
deficiencies for the Notice of Intent to Conduct Prospecting P-2016-002. Responses to each
question posed in the Division's notice are addressed in line below.
1. In the Division's letter dated March 11, 2016, the Division requested the Applicant specify the
grade of the haul road. Specifically, the Division needs to know the percent grade of the upper
portion of the haul road. This information is necessary to select the appropriate piece of
equipment to haul waste rock back to the portal for backfilling. Please respond.
The upper portion of the haul road has a 6% grade.
2. The Applicant has stated that none of the waste rock will be used by Park County or otherwise
transported from the site. In addition, the Applicant has stated the adit will be backfilled 40 feet
from the portal. Given the tunnel dimensions (10'x 12), approximately 178 cubic yards of
waste rock will be backfilled into the adit. Please explain what the Operator intends to do with
the remaining 1,822 cubic yards of waste rock. The applicant should speck the amount of
material (in cubic yards) which may be used on the landowner's road and around the portal. It
will be assumed that any remaining material will be backfilled into the adit.
It is anticipated that 1,830 cubic yards of material will be used in creating a more level workspace
around the portal, a larger pad at the lower area near the local road, and provide a crushed rock base
for the access road all the way to the portal. The table below shows the breakdown of volumes for
each task. If the operator ends up running out of rock, they will reduce the size of the pad
constructed at the lower area.
Detroit City Mine Grading Requirements Area Volume Needed
Portal Area 4,422 SF 850 CY
Access Road 51,025 SF 630 CY
Lower Pad 3,392 SF 350 CY
Total 58,839 1 SF 1 1,830 ICY
