Critical Issues/Downhole Hazards
• Dropped drilling pipe/rods and core barrels — common danger that causes serious injuries.
• Gases
o Methane (CH,) and/ or hydrogen sulfide (H2S) may be encountered while drilling. Appropriate
safety precautions should be taken (i.e. rig and personal monitors).
o Excessive dissolution of nahcolite will produce carbon dioxide (CO2) and possible pressure in
static drill pipe.
• No abnormally high temperatures and/or pressures are expected while drilling these wells
• Downhole fires— explosions at the bottom of the wellbore may occur due to flammable gases
encountered in the formation and the frictional heat generated at the drill bit when
water mist or drilling fluid is not present during drilling or coring.
• Artesian flow/ upflow— natural flow of water to surface which can impede logging or testing.
• Lost circulation zones are expected along the drill course.
o Driller will record and immediately notify onsite geologist when lost circulation zones
encountered.
o Lost circulation zones are expected along the drill course at A-Groove, (1,341' to 1,357' TVD
GL) and B-Groove (1,534' to 1,539' TVD GL) from GL.
o These zones will be anticipated and the mud weight will be increased and/or LCM will be
used.
• Very vuggy and generally poor quality rock may be expected in the R-6 zone.
Communication
Daily Drilling Reports
• A copy of the driller's Daily Drilling Report should be given to a Daub & Associates
representative at the end of each 12 hour shift.
• Copies of both the driller's report and geologist daily report will be placed in the Daub
Data Acquisition Project Notebook for future reference and reporting.
Depth
• The driller and geologist will check pipe tally any time the rig is tripping pipe into or out of
hole in order to verify depths.
• All depths are referenced to GL, and are to be referenced from GL during operations.
Daub & Associates, Inc.
