The Division has finished its review and has the following comments:
The hydrologic monitoring plan is presented on page 3-86 of the currently approved permit
application package requres that water quality samples be taken on North Thompson Creek
in May and September of each year. Parameters tested include: pH, Total Dissolved Solids,
Total Suspended Solids, oil and greese, Bicarbonate, Calcium, Chloride, Iron, Magnesium,
Manganese, Sodium, Sulfate, Zinc, and Copper. The correct frequency and parameters were
tested for in 2015 on Upper and Lower North Thompson Creek. Water quality data collected
for North Thompson Creek is similar between the upstream and downstream locations.
The approved permit application package requires the discharge from Mine No. 1 to be
sampled annualy in June for the following parameters: pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Total
Suspended Solids, oil and greese, Bicarbonate, Calcium, Chloride, Iron, Magnesium,
Manganese, Sodium, Sulfate, Zinc, and Copper. Discharge from Mine No. 1 and Mine No. 3
were sampled on June 29th of 2015 for the correct parameters.
North Thompson Creek was not impacted by the water discharged from Mine No.1 or Mine
No. 3 in 2015. Minrec, Inc. reported that there was no discharge recorded through Outfall
001 during the year. Since 2010, water from Pond T-2 was directed to flow into Pond P9.
When Pond P9 fills the flow continues through an open ditch to the Refuse Pond. Water
impounded in the Refuse Pond does not discharge from the pond. This was approved as a
part of the developed water resource post mining land use.
The Division finds the 2015 Annual Hydrology Report to be in compliance with the Rules and the approved
permit application. The Division has no questions or further comments.
