Michael A. Cunningham
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Cunningham,
April 29, 2015
REC'"'IFD
APR 3 0 2015
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
Per the Boards direction, this letter is submitted in compliance with the Board's request
for a quarterly update on activities at the Alma Placer Mine, DRMS File No. M-1958-
029, owned and operated by High Mountain Mining Co., LLC concerning activities at the
mine related to prevention of further discharges at the mine and status of interface with
other governmental entities regarding our accidental spill of sediment into the river in
October of 2014.
1. The mine was inactive in the first quarter of 2015 due to normal adverse mining
conditions in Colorado at an elevation of 10,500 ft. We expect to resume
operations the first week in May.
2. We have complied with all Board orders with regard to corrective actions
regarding the spill with the exception of completing clean out of Pond 3, which is
currently underway. Bad weather forced cessation of this operation in the last
quarter of 2014 when the Ponds froze.
3. We have submitted an application for Permit Modification which we now have
`Adequacy Review No. 1' back from your office and we intend to have complied
with all requests and have them submitted to you next week, ahead of your
specified ruling date of May 18.
4. At the request of CDHPE, Colorado Water Quality Control Division, we have sent
a copy of the updated Mine Plan Map along with a restatement of why a
discharge permit or storm water permit is not required for the Alma Placer Mine.
Our consultant, Mr. Greg Lewicki, PE has been involved with permits on the site
since 1999 and this information was generated by his firm, Greg Lewicki and
Associates, PLLC.
5. We have had no further discussions or requests from the Colorado Division of
Wildlife.
