q
V
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St.,Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: 303) 67 `\ Apt 0
FAX:(303)832-8102-810 6 ,,n
tA of
DATE: March 31, 2016 , OMNNPADS
TO: Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
FROM: Dan Collins, Managing Partner,Collins-Morehead LLC
RE: Request for 30 day extension for application deadline for submittal of post mining reclamation plan.
Please accept this letter as a request for a 30 day extension for application for submittal of a "post mining"
reclamation plan. Our current deadline for submittal is April 4,2016.Our permit number is M-1986-102.
We are in the process of making application to the Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety(DRMS)to alter the
"post mining"reclamation plan of the limestone mine on our property at Deep Creek(seven miles west of
Telluride,Colorado). The mine portion of the property occupies approximately 44 acres of our property(Parcel B).
The residential portions of the property(Parcel A)occupies the balance of the nearly 70 acre property. The
property has been held by the family since the early 1960s.
Since becoming the designated operator last year,I have been working closely with the reclamation specialists at
DRMS.The process my family is pursuing, with the full support of DRMS,involves the amendment of the current
post-mine use plan. DRMS is in agreement that a safe and productive"re-purposing"of the mine can be
successfully achieved without prohibitive costs. The current bond(approximately$18,000)should be adequate to
satisfy the terms of the amended agreement.
In addition to working on an amended agreement with the DRMS,we have been working closely with San Miguel
County—both the SMCBOC and the County Planning office—to re-examine the proposed uses and a required
change in zoning. The county is proposing a change in zoning to HC.
Outstanding items to complete include the following:
--Posting of signage("Notice")at mine entrance detailing the proposed changes in use.
--Proof of service of the application to San Miguel County Commissioners.
--Proof of service of the application to the San Miguel County Soil District.
Sincerely,
I -Z LZ_
Dan Collins,Managing Partner
Collins-Morehead, LLC
Cc:Lucas West, Reclamation Specialist, DRMS,Grand Junction office
P✓n
