BESTWAY
CONCRETE&AGGREGATE
April 7,2016
Division of Reclamation,Mining&Safety
Mr.Michael Cunningham
1313 Sherman St,Room#215
Denver,CO 80203
Dear Mr.Cunningham;
RE: Bestway Concrete,Inc.-Rocky Flats Pit
M.L.R.B.Permit#M-1987-113
Technical Revision ditch move
Attached is a Technical Revision form and supporting information sheet and the Fee of$216.00 for requesting a minor
change to the reclamation plan that relocates the Church&McKay ditches that bisect the mine to a ROW along the west and north
lines. The updating Reclamation Map shows this change. This request is in conjunction with a similar Technical Revision request
filed by The Lakewood Brick and Tile CO.for their mine the Church Pit-M-1979-045.The original plan thought that the ditches
would be merged into one ditch and relocated along the west and south sides of the Bluestone Pit permit area, then cross the south end
of the Church Pit and the south and east sides of Rocky Flats Pit,returning to their original ditches in the northeast corner of the
Rocky Flats pit. When that permit was released,it was determined by the owners and mine operators that it was not feasible to use
this route so the plan was changed to move them to the north side of the two remaining mines.
Attached are the documents and plans showing, approval for the move by the ditch owners,Broomfield;the surface owners,
The Department of Energy;and the mineral owners,Church Ranch. The Reclamation Map also shows how the southern end of the
mine will be reclaimed considering the amount of overburden we are encountering and returning to the mined area. At this time we
can only estimate how much will be refilled but the plan is to continue filling from south to north until mining ends. We originally
estimated the mine would be 60 feet deep but as mining progresses we are finding the gravel reserves are much deeper than originally
thought and plan to maximize extraction by going deeper.
If you have any questions or need more information please call me.
Respectfully Submitted,
Mark Johnson
Vice President
cc Charlie McKay-Church Ranch
Perry McKay-Church Ranch
Tom Murray-Lakewood Brick
Steve O'Brian-Environment,Inc.
City of Broomfield
DOE
file
enclosures
Bestway Concrete and Aggregate,301 Centennial Drive,Milliken,CO 80543
