King Coal Mine (C-1981-035) TR -26 Adequacy Review #1 Response
GCCE Mar 2016: Corrections have been made as noted. Entire section 2.05.6 has been modified and is included
with this submission.
24. DRMS Nov 2015: Please clarify what appendix the Water Augmentation Plan should be labeled and
update this revised page as needed.
GCCE Mar 2016: We were unable to locate references to the Water Augmentation Plan in section 2.04.9, please
clari .
K. Reclamation Cost Estimate
25. DRMS Nov 2015: DRMS began a reclamation cost estimate for the proposed project, however the
permittee must address the adequacy review issues regarding the Topsoil Handling and Reclamation
Plan in order to complete the reclamation cost estimate.
GCCE Mar 2016: Noted.
L. Radionuclides Testing
During a teleconference between representatives of Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety (DRMS), Office
of Surface Mining (OSM) and local land owners a question was raised regarding the absence or presence of
naturally occurring radioactive elements in coal formations, and surface and groundwater.
DRMS Nov 2015: Please consider including the monitoring of radionuclides in the water sampling of these
proposed wells. References on this topic such as United States Geological Service (USGS) or the Colorado
State Geologist studies or white papers may prove useful sources of information.
GCCE Mar 2016: GCC EneM has considered including the monitoring of radionuclides in the proposed well. We
have been unable to locate any precedence for such a request for, what we believe to be unnecessary and vga
expensive testing. Please explain the scientific basis° or your request and direct us to existing cases where testing
for radionuclides in coal mines has been warranted and required.
