The solubility of barium is also strongly influenced by sulfate(Hem, 1985). The <br /> slightly elevated aqueous barium concentrations may attest to the relatively low sulfur concentration in the <br /> Fort Hayes Limestone. Any mixing with water containing a higher sulfate concentration would likely reduce <br /> the soluble barium concentration. <br /> POTENTIAL MONITORING PARAMETERS <br /> If groundwater were to occur downgradient from the quarry and plant site,this section addresses what is <br /> known about the potential character of that water and constituents that may be of interest for monitoring. <br /> Under the existing groundwater monitoring plan,if water were to occur in the only site monitoring well, <br /> MW-005, it would be analyzed for field pH,conductivity and temperature,and in the lab for sulfate,TDS, <br /> radium-226 and radium-228. This parameter list was developed based on results from the St.Charles River <br /> monitoring wells,which have since been proven to not be applicable for GCC monitoring and accordingly <br /> plugged and abandoned. To date,no groundwater has been observed in strata related to GCC operations of <br /> quarrying Fort Hayes Limestone. <br /> Given the overall typical limestone character of the Fort Hayes at the GCC quarry,the general water quality <br /> associated with any precipitation contacting and subsequently infiltrating to groundwater is expected to be <br /> similar to the water quality of a typical carbonate aquifer dominated by concentrations of calcium and <br /> bicarbonate. If groundwater associated with the Fort Hayes Limestone were to be observed,the water <br /> quality would be dependent on the location of infiltration to the unit. Older water that has resided a long <br /> time or traveled a long distance in the limestone would more likely be in equilibrium with calcium carbonate <br /> Close Consulting Group LLC <br />
