New Horizon Mine
4.0 RESULTS
4.1 Irrigated Pasture
Revegetation evaluation for Irrigated Pasture consisted of monitoring 2008 (Year 7) and 2013 (Year
2) units. The 2008 Irrigated Pasture unit comprised 0.48 acres and the 2013 Irrigated Pasture unit
comprise 0.53 acres. The Irrigated Pasture Reference Area was also evaluated to provide performance
comparison. Information of irrigation can be found in Section 5 and Attachment 5 in the 2015 Annual
Reclamation Report. Because of the small acreage of the units, production was not evaluated during this
interim monitoring effort. However, forage quality calculations based on ground cover evaluations are
presented for informational purposes.
2008 Unit (Year 7):
Sampling on the 2008 Irrigated Pasture unit consisted of systematic distribution of 10 ground cover
transects. A total of 8 plant species were encountered within the 2008 Irrigated Pasture unit evaluated in
2015 (Table 2). Ground cover in the 2008 Irrigated Pasture unit (Table 2 and Charts 1 and 2) consisted
of 86.50% live vegetation, 0.0% rock, 4.20% litter, and bare ground exposure of 9.30%. Desirable
perennial cover across the unit averaged 86.30%, with annual and biennial cover averaging 0.011/o
absolute cover. Noxious weeds cover was 0.20% absolute cover. Dominant taxa were meadow brome
(Bromus biebersteinn) and alfalfa (Merlicago saNva) with 51.20% and 21.50% average cover,
respectively. For information purposes, the relative forage quality based on ground cover was 99.8%
(Table 2).
2013 Unit (Year 2):
Sampling on the 2013 Irrigated Pasture unit consisted of systematic distribution of 10 ground cover
transects. A total of 23 plant species were encountered within the 2013 Irrigated Pasture unit evaluated
in 2015 (Table 2). Ground cover in the 2013 Irrigated Pasture unit (Chart 1 and Table 1) consisted of
64.10% live vegetation, 0.0%6 rock, 10.500/o fitter, and bare ground exposure of 25.4GO/o. Desirable
perennial cover across the unit averaged 27.20%, with annual and biennial cover averaging 25.00%
absolute cover (14.60% from forbs and 11.4% from grasses). Noxious weeds cover was 10.90 0/0
absolute cover. Dominant taxa were dandelion ( Taraxacum offianale) and `Triticale' ( Tnficum x 5'ecale
cereale) with 14.60% and 1.1.40% from grasses average cover, respectively. For information purposes,
the relative forage quality based on ground cover was 42.40/6 (Table 2).
CEDAR CREEK ASSOCIATI-N, Inc. a New HodRon Mine
2015 Interim RevegetaUon Evafua6on
2015 Annual Reclamation Report Page 27
