New Horizon Mine
New Horizon Mine
Permit: C-1981-008
2015 INTERIM REVEGETATION EVALUATION
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Cedar Creek Associates, Inc. (Cedar Creek) was contracted in 2015 by the New Horizon Mine (New
Horizon) to conduct interim vegetation monitoring within selected reclamation units. Monitoring was
performed in the interest of ascertaining progress toward revegetation success in general accordance
with success standards and in fulfillment of vegetation monitoring requirements for the New Horizon
permit. At the time of sampling, revegetation within evaluated units had experienced either 2 or 7
growing seasons following completion of seeding (Section 205.4(2)(e), Section 7.0 of permit C-1981-
008). In general, revegetation is classified into three types at New Horizon: Irrigated Pasture, Dryland
Pasture, and Irrigated Cropland. As stated in the permit, reclamation units are evaluated for interim
revegetation performance in Years 2 and 7 at New Horizon for irrigated pastureland and dryland pasture,
and years 2 and 8 for irrigated cropland. It is anticipated that bond release evaluations will occur in
years 9 and 10 for irrigated pasture and dryland pasture reclamation and years 8, 9, and 10 for irrigated
cropland reclamation.
Held sampling for the directly measurable
variable of ground cover was conducted on the
Irrigated Pasture units and associated Irrigated
Pasture Reference Area in 2015. Field efforts
from June in through 4k', 2015 were conducted
under the direct supervision of Cedar Creek's
Senior Reclamation Ecologist and Soil Specialist,
Mr. Jesse H. Dillon. The units monitored during
the 2015 effort are presented on Table 1 and
exhibited on Map 1. Raw data are presented in
Appendix A with methodologies used for the
revegetation evaluation are presented in
Appendix B.
(TI)AR. d'ltl•:I•:K ASSOCIATES, Inc.
Table 1 - 2415 Interim Vegetation Monitoring Units
Irrigated Pasture Units
Seeding Year
Season
First Growing
Seamon
Acreage
#ofsarnpieS
Coyer Productioo
2008 Spring
2013SprinQ
2005
2013 1
0.46
0.53
10 -
10 -
Dryland Pasture Units
Seeding Year
First drown
Season
Acreage
#of samples
Corer I Production
No Dryland Pasture Units Evaluated in 2015
Irrigated Cropland Units
Seeding Year
rustSsw
Acreage
hof samples
Corer Ptaductnn
No Dryland Pasluae Units Evaluate in 2015
1 New Horizon Mine
2015 Interim Revegetation Evaluation
2015 Annual Reclamation Report Page 21
