The site geotechnical
investigations are required to provide foundation and materials information for design and construction of a
series of aerobic/anaerobic holding pond/wetland cells.
Site geotechnical investigations for the passive treatment system will involve completion of eight backhoe test -
pits to depths of approximately 15 feet; physical examination of the soil profile, and collection, examination, and
testing of soil samples. The work will be clone under current snowpack conditions, with no road construction.
A small dozer will clear any excess snow and pack -down a snow base for the backhoe and pickups to access the
test -pit locations. Each test -pit will be backfilled on completion of sampling with the excavated material and
leveled. Test -pit locations will be reseeded in the spring. It should be noted that all minor surface disturbance
associated with the site geotechnical investigations falls within the footprint of previous cultural resource survey
completed and submitted for the 5MN Pipeline and future passive treatment system (MR15-288).
This submittal includes revised PAP text, exhibits; and maps, addressing the location, nature, configuration, and
associated reclamation of areas affected by the proposed geotechnical investigations. It should be noted that the
current approved permit language includes consideration of the types of activities proposed under this MR
application (pages 2.05-84.9-10). New and revised PAP materials are identified by the attached Summary of
Revisions/Additions. We would like to proceed with this work as soon as possible, and therefore, appreciate
vour consideration and cooperation in facilitating timely review and approval of this revision application. After
ti•ou have opportunity to review the accompanying information, please feel free to contact me with any questions
or to discuss submittal materials or related matters.
Best regards,
T\\entymile Coal LC
Jerry l .
