Rob Zuber
Page 2
March 10, 2016
1013, however no cross section locations are shown on that map. Later, under the sub -heading
Stratigraphy, the text refers to Figures 2.04.6-5 Sheets 1 through 3.
The application submission contains two sheets with geologic cross-sections on, titled "Figure
2.04.6, Sheet 1 of 2" and "... Sheet 2 of 2". A note on these sheets refers to Map 11B for cross-
section locations.
Please update the text to ensure it is consistent with the maps and figures submitted. Please
show the locations of all geologic cross-sections on Map 7A. If the same figures are to be used in
order to comply with rule 2.04.7 the cross section locations should also be shown on Map 10B.
CCC revised the text of Volume 15, Rule 2, Page 15 to read "The stratigraphy is also
represented on five cross sections presented as Figures 2.04.6 Sheets 1 and 2. A key to the
location of the geologic cross sections are shown on Map 7A". Later, under the sub -heading
Stratigraphy, the text has also been revised to maintain consistency.
The updates to Map 7A made on 7/9/15 show the cross section locations.
The response is sufficient.
66. The cross sections shown in Figure 2.04.6, Sheets 1 and 2 are drawn at a scale of 1" = 400'
(horizontal and vertical), with more than 70 stratigraphic layers. The scale makes it extremely
difficult to extract relevant information from the figures (particularly the thickness of the Km
layer).
Please redraw the cross-sections with vertical exaggeration. A scale of 1" = 50'-100' on the
vertical axis would be appropriate.
CCC declined to change Figure 2.04.6, making the point that these figures had been previously
approved under PR -3 at the same scale and that other comments made by the Division
showed that the relevant information could be extracted from them. The Division maintains
that the cross sectional drawings would be easier to interpret and more legible if re -scaled,
but concedes that they are adequate for their purpose.
The response is sufficient.
67. The legend on Figure 2.04.6, Sheets 1 and 2, shows layers marked "Pit Shell", "TCT" and "STCM"
in addition to the 70+ identified coal seams. These layers appear not to have been drawn.
Furthermore, it is not clear what "TCT' and "STCM" refer to. Per the text, the lowest coal seam
to be mined is GB which is shown in blue on the cross-sections. The Smectite layer (Km), which
has been identified as a laterally continuous low -permeability layer, is shown in pink.
Please clarify the terms used in the legend. Please also display the first aquifer below the lowest
coal seam to be mined (presumably the Trout Creek Sandstone) on the cross-section.
CCC added an explanatory note to each sheet of Figure 2.04.6.
The response is sufficient.
