52.04 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SIIRFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES -- <br />MINIMOM REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES. <br /> <br />2,04.7 Hydrology Description. <br />(2) Surface Water Information. <br />(a) and (b) (Cont'd.) <br />Roatcap Creeks to the .North Fork is also usually dry <br />following spring run-off, as most flows are diverted <br />upstream for irrigation. Livestock and wildlife util- <br />ize water from these streams and from many scattered <br />stockponds. Riparian vegetation exists along the im- <br />mediate streambanks of the creeks, confined by the <br />steep topography and narrow alluvial/colluvial deposiCs <br />within the streambed. No extensive riparian or other <br />unique habitats are known to exist along the streams. <br />Stockwater Ponds Within Permit Area: <br />A considerable number of ponds exist within the permit <br />area. Most of these ponds are man-made and serve for <br />stock watering. Only a few of the ponds are used for <br />other purposes such as irrigation or domestic. Sizes <br />of ponds are as small as one hundred square ft. to as <br />• big as one acre. Ponds within the permit area are typ- <br />ically fed by run-off during the spring season; howev- <br />er, many ponds are related to colluvial springs and <br />seeps. During the field reconnaissance, the storage <br />capacity and the source of water for each of the ponds <br />was evaluated. The data pertinent to monitoring of <br />ponds and springs are presented on Tables 2 and 3 in <br />Voliane 4. Although the ponds are a significant hydro- <br />logic feature of the permit area and their existence is <br />important to the local water users, total contribution <br />of these ponds to the local water budget is not signif- <br />icant. No ponds are located in the area of the Orchard <br />Valley West Mine. The significance of ponds for land <br />use considerations can be found in Section 2.05.6, <br />Probable Hydrologic Consequences of the Proposed Mine. <br />Surface Water on Mine Facilities Area: <br />Surface water run-off associated with the applicant's <br />operations is controlled by the Orchard Valley Mine <br />Drainage Plan.
