42.04 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SIIRFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES -- <br />_ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESOIIRCES. <br />2.04.7 Hydrology Description. <br />(1) (a) (i)(ii)(iii) and (iv) (Cont'd.) <br />samplers (DH-70 and GR77-7) inoperative, but <br />water level indicators remained functioning in <br />DH-65, DH-60, DH-58, DH-69, DH 70, and GR-77-7. <br />CWI believed that the functioning water level <br />detection instruments portrayed seasonal fluc- <br />tuations in static water levels. <br />The areal extent of CWI groundwater investiga- <br />tion is bounded by Terror Creek on the East, <br />West Fork of Terror Creek on the North, Roat- <br />cap Creek on the West, and the North Fork of <br />the Gunnison River on the South, comprising <br />approximately 5000 acres. <br />Although several hydrological studies were <br />conducted previously in anticipation of Lease <br />C-37210, the present investigation began in <br />Spring, 1983. Color air photographs purchased <br />from Associated Surveys (which performed the <br />fly overs on September 22, 1982, under Ch1LRD <br />contract) at a scale of 1 inch to approximate- <br />ly 1,000 feet were inspected for vegetative <br />and geomorphologic indicators. Concurrently, <br />a suitable base map depicting topography, <br />roads, structures, etc., was enlarged to <br />1:12000 from U. S. G. S. 7 1/2 minute series and <br />compiled. A preliminary map was developed in <br />which the possibility of a hydrologic feature <br />was to be substantiated in the field. In this <br />fashion, every likely site for a pond, spring, <br />etc., was identified. Subsequently, in order <br />to verify the correct locations, search for <br />additional features, characterize field param- <br />eters (flow pH, temperature, and conductivi- <br />ty), and ascertain beneficial use, CWI's tech- <br />nical staff examined the area of study on <br />foot, where surface ownership consent was ob- <br />tained. Some of the features not visible from <br />the air photographs were then located by stan- <br />dard field mapping procedures.
