COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining( and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
February 24, 2016
Brian Watterson, P.G.
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Rout County Road #27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
RE: Foidel Creek Mine; C-1982-056
Twentymile Mine Exploration Drill Hole Abandonment Report Review
Dear Mr. Watterson:
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division), received a drill hole abandonment
report for the majority of the Wolf Creek Reserve corehole project on July 8, 2015. However, several of
the coreholes drilled and sealed with the Wolf Creek Reserve Corehole project were not included in the
abandonment report. This issue was cited as a maintenance item on the Division's site inspection reports.
The Division requested abandonment reports for the following drill holes: WC -026E, WC -026F, WC -
026G, WC -027, WC -029, WC -2613, WC -028 and WC -006.
On February 10, 2016 during the Division's site inspection, you provided me a spreadsheet with the drill
hole abandonment information for the drill holes in question with the exception of WC -006. According
to Mike Berdine, this hole was never drilled. However, when the Division visited the WC -006 site during
the August 11, 2015 site inspection, the area had been disturbed but was reclaimed. A drill hole was not
observed but an identification marker was in place. The drill hole abandonment spreadsheet provided was
reviewed for compliance with Rule 4.07.3 of the Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Board for Coal Mining. The spreadsheet contains all of the required information from Rule 4.07.3(3)
except for item (h). Please provide the name of the drilling contractor and the license number of the
drill and rig used to seal the coreholes.
The amount/volume of cement used for each hole was reported as gallons. Based on our discussion, it
appears the volume reported for each drill hole exceed the volume that was necessary for each hole and
the excess material was placed in an adjacent pit and then transported elsewhere to be used. In the future,
please report only the volume used to seal each hole.
Rule 4.07.3(3) requires that proof of compliance of permanent sealing of drill holes be submitted within
60 days after abandoning a drill hole, specific drilling program or when requested by the Division. In the
future, please submit the required proof of compliance within the 60 day timeframe.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me at (303) 866-3567, extension 8120.
Sincerely,
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
