SHELTON, Olrector
DATE: January 30, 1987
TO: Mike Savage J
FROM: Peter O'Connor
RE: La Plata Coal Corporation Permit Application: File No. C-87-072
As you know, this company has submitted a permit application for the La Plata
#1 Mine. This application was received on January 26, 1987. The La Plata #1
Mine is the new name for the old Peacock Mine previously operated by Sunbelt
Mining, Inc. (File No. C-81 -040).
This new permit application is an updated version of the application submitted
by AC_, Inc., back in 1981 for Sunbelt Mining. La Plata Coal modified the
application to reflect their mining and reclamation philosophy and to
e;iminate any reference to Peacock or Sunbelt Mining.
As we agreed, this permit application was deemed complete for two reasons:
A. The original Sunbelt Mining permit application was deemed complete
and an adequacy letter was formulated. This new permit application
is a mirror copy of the old application with the adequacy letter
addressed.
G. The various outstanding concerns identified to date can be readily
addressed within the 120' day timeframe.
This application was deemed complete today after La Plata Coal revised some of
the application pages and submitted a revised proposed public notice.
Therefore, the following timeframes exist as addressed by the regulations.
Date Item
Ka—rch 31 , 1987 PAR due to operator
May 30, 1987 Proposed final decision due
Due to some of the concerns we discussed pertaining to Blue Flame, I would
request that everyone on the team review this application. We have 5 copies
of this 2 volume application. Since this is a previously mined site, the
review should go fairly quick. The longest review will probably be taken by
Tom for the board and myself for the entire application.
Please let me know when you would like to discuss this matter in greater
detail.
PO/eck
7178F
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
