Mine Facilities
Introduction
This section contains a description of the structures to be used in connection with or to facilitate
the surface coal mining and reclamation activities at the New Horizon North (NHN) Mine area
described in Section 2.05.3, Operation Plan: Permit Area.
Support Facilities
Buildings Buildings include a 20 ft. x 60 ft. mobile building to be used as a foreman's office, two
8 ft. x 40 ft. steel cargo containers to be used for warehousing and parts storage, a 10 ft. x 50 ft.
elevated steel water tank for dust suppression and a fuel storage facility consisting of as many as
two (2) above -ground fuel tanks used for diesel storage. Other structures include a 30 ft. x 64 ft.
steel equipment wash pad, a 50 ft. x 50 ft. concrete tire change pad and an equipment ready line,
parking area and materials storage area. All of these structures will be located at the NHN Mine
facilities area. Map 2.05.3(3)-1 Facilities Map shows the locations of the buildings and structures.
Details of sizes and types of construction are shown in Table 2.05.3(3)-1.
Waste Water Sewage will be disposed of through portable toilets. Waste water from the
equipment wash will be re -circulated and reused; however, if there is any excess waste water, it
will be run through a sediment trap and an oil water separator and discharged to Pond NHN-001
via a natural drainage and the NHN-001 East Ditch.
Dewatering S. sY tem Appendix 2.05.6(3)-4 contains State Engineer approved permits for three
dewatering wells adjacent to the initial boxcut excavation in the backfill. The wells are 85 ft., 65
ft. and 85 ft. deep, respectively. The dewatering system wells are initially drilled with a 6-3/4 in.
tri -cone bit then air lift tested to determine if enough water is present to warrant installing a
pump. If sufficient water is present the well is reamed with an 8-3/4 in. tri -cone bit and cased
with Schedule 40 PVC pipe. The bottom 20 ft. screen section of the casing is mill slotted 6 in.
PVC. The entire hole is gravel packed and a pump is installed and the top 10 ft. of the hole is
filled with Sakrete. Electricity for the pump or pumps is provided by a portable generator. These
wells are temporary. The holes will be reclaimed after they have served their purpose, the pumps
removed, the holes filled with granular bentonite to within 10 ft. of surface, concreted 10 ft. to
the surface and reclaimed in cycle with the surface reclamation of the pit.
Section 2.05.3(3) Page 1 Sept. 2015 (TR -11)
