Daub & Associates, Inc. Page 3-60 2015 NS Mine Plan Modification
1/5/2016 Section 3 General Site Conditions
green weights. Ground cover values were made from visual observations of cover
type within each quadrant and reported as a percentage of total ground cover.
Ground cover values included the cover of litter, rocks, cryptograms (moss and
lichens) and foliar cover of plants by species.
In 2014, data was collected from eleven well pad sites that have been plugged and
abandoned and are in final reclamation status. In addition, data was collected from
four monitoring wells in which portions of their well pads were reclaimed and
considered in interim reclamation status. None of the reclamation efforts on the 15
well pads examined are a failure. The plant communities on all 15 well pads are
providing adequate soil protection and have stabilized each site. It is anticipated that
they will all achieve the reclamation goals in time.
A summary of the data collected 2014 in comparison with data collected from
previous years is presented in the tables that follow. Ground cover data are
presented in Table 3-15, biomass production in Table 3-16 and species composition
in Table 3-17. The data presented in these tables are summarized from the
quantitative data collected in 2014 and presented at the end of this section. The
scientific and common names of all the plant species encountered in the study are
presented in the tables at the end of this section.
The ground cover data in Table 3-15 are summarized by class of vegetation and
cover type from data presented in Table 3-18. The ground cover data in Table 3-18
are shown by plant species and cover type. The production data presented in Table
3-16 are summarized from the annual aboveground vegetation biomass production
for each plant species as shown in Table 3-18. The species composition data
presented in Table 3-17 are summarized by class of vegetation. The class is taken
from the percent composition of each plant species encountered as determined by
each species contribution to total biomass production as shown in Table 3-18.
.
