Skies were clear, and temperatures reached the low 30?F's. Snow from the days and
weeks before covered most of the surface facilities. Snow prevented activity at the King I refuse pile. The last
activity at King I occurred in mid to late November. Road hazard due to ice and snow prevented hauling from the
mine for the time we were present.
We began with an inspection of the records at GCC offices. Michael McFarland accompanied us throughout the field
inspection of the King I and II surface facilities.
The conveyer was recently pulled at 8W and moved to 9W. Development was taking place at 9W and would progress
to 2S by the end of January. Currently, two continuous miners are operating.
PERMITTING UPDATE:
TR -20 Coal Mine Waste for Highwall Backfill
o On June 9, 2015, the Division issued a supplemental adequacy item, requesting that GCC develop a sampling
plan for further analysis of the acid and toxic forming potential of coal mine waste.
