CERTIFIED MAIL 7015 0640 0007 75718240
RETURN RECEIPT NO.
January 21, 2016 ibillk
Mr. Peter S. Hays AGGREGATE
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety INDUSTRIES
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Permit No. M-1989-029—Longmont Distel Operations - I I2c Annual Report
Dear Peter:
Enclosed is the annual report form for year ended December 7, 2015. The map that was
submitted with the 2012 report is also enclosed for reference regarding prior years'
mining disturbances and reclamation activities. The annual fee was submitted previously
and received by the Division on November 30, 2015.
All extraction activity was completed at the Longmont Distel Operation in 2011, while
processing, sales and reclamation activities have continued since that time. These
activities will continue in 2016 and into the future as mining of material from an adjacent
operation under Permit No. M-1994-027 (Longmont Operation aka Tull Farm)continues.
As noted in the annual report for permit year ended December 7, 2013, major flooding of
the St. Vrain Creek in September 2013 significantly impacted the Longmont Distel site.
During the flood event, the river breached in various locations and flowed in braided
channels throughout the majority of the site. The flood stripped vegetation and scoured
topsoil and overburden from areas that had previously been fully reclaimed but
unreleased Topsoil and overburden was also scoured away in other areas that had not yet
been revegetated and material stockpiled for reclamation was washed away. There is
significant erosion and deposition across the site and as of permit year ended December
7, 2015,the creek has not, nor is it anticipated to naturally return to its pre-flood channel.
With the exception of the operations area which is owned by Aggregate Industries (Al),
the City of Longmont(City)is the owner of the properties within the Longmont Distel
Operation permit boundary. These properties were incorporated into the City's open
space master plan for the St. Vrain River corridor, which is referred to by the City as the
Sandstone Reach. The City has therefore taken the lead in the flood restoration project
and through its consultants has developed a plan which has been submitted under a 404
Aggregate Industries
West Central Region,Inc.
1687 Cole Boulevard,Suite 300
Golden,CO 80401
An Equal Opportunity Employer
Telephone:303-985-1070
