Technical Revision M-1981-179
Narrative
Yuma County is operating the Mekelburg 1 Pit in Yuma County Colorado.
The pit is located at Range 48w Township 5 n Section 8 SE 1/4 . this pit is 113 acers in size.
In the original 112c application it was noted we would be operating in 10 acre increments.
At this time re would like this restriction to be removed. As we have 2 separate cuts opened.
With a 3rd cut possible in the future.
See map for location of cuts
Pit area 1 is the farthest south pit this is the upper deck which has a good clay gravel vein pit
has 3:1 slopes with top soil and overburden stockpiled on the west side of this pit. This pit is
being mined to the East and North. Reclamation is being conducted from the West as we move.
Pit Area 2 is in the center of the permitted area this is the lower deck. This area has a sandy
gravel material. This area in being mined to the East, Northeast. Topsoil for this area is
stockpiled along the Eastern boundary along creek. Reclamation in this area is from the west.
Pit area 3 is on the north side of the permitted area north of creek. No mining has happened in
this area to date . this are has plans for a 3rd pit opening from east mining to the west.
The Mekelburg 1 Pit has a dry creek that runs through the center of permitted area. We will
leave a 100' buffer zone from creek to active mining area as to not disrupt any potential water
flow from Heavy rain in the area.
Access to the pit is from secondary road as show in map. Roads 1 and 3 are main roads we use
to access pits 1 and 2. Access road 2 will be closed and road reclaimed as it is not needed.
Access road 4 is for access to pit#3. All lateral roads off of CR 58 will reclaimed once the pit is
completed. County Road 58 will remain up to the pit permitted boundary.
c_
