2. As a substitute for Type V cement,ASTM C150,Type II or III cement with
a minimum of 20%, and a maximum of 35%, substitution of Class F fly ash
(ASTM C618) by weight may be used. Class C fly ash shall not be
substituted for cement.
3. Cement shall be stored to prevent caking, partial setting, deterioration or
contamination. Cement,which has any deleterious characteristics, shall not
be used.
B. Aggregates
1. Coarse aggregate shall conform to ASTM C33. See Section 3.01.B for
maximum size of coarse aggregate.
2. Fine aggregate shall be clean, angular sand. Fine aggregate shall conform
to ASTM C33.
3. Aggregates shall be stored and handled so as to preserve the gradation and
cleanliness of the material. Segregation and/or contamination are cause for
rejection. Any deficient material shall be removed and replaced at the
Contractor's expense.
4. Aggregate reactivity shall be evaluated in accordance with ASTM C33 and
the results reported with the proposed mix design.
C. Water
1. Water used in mixing concrete shall meet, as a minimum, the requirements
of ASTM C94, C1602 and Chapter 4 of ACI 318 for appropriate exposure
class.
D. Reinforcement
1. Materials
a. Reinforcing steel bars shall conform to the requirements of ASTM
A615, Grade 60. Bars that are indicated on the Drawings to be
welded (the circular hoop reinforcing) shall conform to the
requirements of ASTM A706, Grade 60. Steel bars shall be
deformed.
