rG r- 1-ig h' n e et n g ul 1-" e P r'l
Date: January 5, 2016
To: Tom Bird
Manager, Coal Services
GCC Energy, LLC
6473 County Road 120
Hesperus, CO 81326
(970) 385-4528
From: Ryan Griglak, P.E.
Project Manager
Stoner Engineering & Surveying
Re: King Coal I — Quarterly Water Quality Improvements Inspection
On December 28, 2015, Ryain Griglak, P.C. visited the GCC Energy, LLC King I Mine site to
conduct the quarterly inspection of the water quality features, installed to prevent
contaminated storm water runoff from escaping the site in events smaller than the 100 -year
storm event.
The bottoms of the ponds were not visible at the tilmle of the Inspection due tosno
accumulation. The ponds both appeared to be generally in good condition. The requir
storage volume lis adequate at this time based upon the sedimentation gaged
pionds (see Pic. 1). In the, event that there is above average snowfall a1ccurnJation during t
winter months, the ponds may need to have the excess sediment removed after the spri
runoff.
The drainage ditches and pipes were obscured by snow accumulation but, should be
generally good condition. The geofabric for the north sediment trap at the site entrance h
been repaired to prevent runoff from getting under the fabric and allowing sediment to esca
thsite (see Pic. 2). All pipeis, ditches and sediment traps should be inspected and repaired
niecessairy, once sufficient snow accumulation has melted. .
1
e
The drainage fo,r the overaill site should be functioning well alnid generally in good shape. There
were no specific items noted during the inspection which required attention due to the snow
present onsite atthe time of the inspection. Thie drainage features have been constructed aind
appear to be operating as stated in the drainage plan submitted to the Division of Minerals aind
Geology.
P.C.
