The approval of TR 67 would reduce the
groundwater monitoring program at The Rapid Creek and Cottonwood Creek piezometers (GWMS-
01A, 01B, 02A, 02B, 03A, and 03B) and the Cameo Refuse Disposal Areas (CRDA-1 and CRDA-2
piezometers)
The Rapid Creek and Cottonwood Creek groundwater monitoring collected baseline data from 1984 to
1987 and have been monitored biannually since 1988. The data collected through the 2014 reporting
year appears stable and it is unlikely any additional use will come from continued monitoring at these
locations. Rule 4.05.13(3)(b) allows for the reduction of the monitoring program if sufficient data has
been provided, which is available in the Annual Hydrology Report (AHR).
Cameo Refuse Disposal Areas CRDA-1 and CRDA-2 were installed between 1894 and 1991 and
monitored quarterly. Data from 1999 to 2014 provided in the AHR appears stable with little variation in
recent years.
No defined aquifers exist in or adjacent to the permit boundary. No groundwater rights are adjudicated
in the permit area.
This TR does not seek to remove designated discharge points from monitoring plan. One permanent
discharge point exists (Outfall 016), which drains from the South Mine workings.
I have no adequacy issues for TR 67 relevant to the reduction in the groundwater monitoring program.
OF-C10
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http: //mining.state.co.us
John W.
