COLORADO
Division of Water Resources
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821
Denver, CO 80203
RECEIVED
Oa; L. c lO15
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION'
WINGAND SAFETY
Response to Reclamation Permit Application Consideration
DATE: December 28, 2015
TO: Eric C. Scott, Environmental Protection Specialist
CC: Division 1 Office, District 1 Water Commissioner
FROM: Sarah Brucker, P.E.
RE: Peters 313 Pit, File
Applicant/Operator: - • ounty Public Works
Contact: Jay McDonald, (970) 304-6496
S'/2 SW IA Section 26, Twp 12 North, Rng 63 West,
RECEOSik
DEC 292015
DIVISiOli OF TION
00406111) WET(
6th P.M., Weld County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
• Exposure of ground water must not occur during or after mining operations.
® The applicant will need to document that any water used at the site was obtained from a legal source,
or was diverted in priority under a water right decreed for such mining/industrial use.
® If stormwater runoff is intercepted by this operation and is not diverted or captured in priority, it must
be released to the stream system within 72 hours; otherwise the operator will need to make
replacements for evaporation.
COMMENTS: The subject application is for a surface mining operation on 80 permitted acres approximately 5
miles west of Hereford, Colorado. The primary commodities to be mined at the site are sand and gravel. The
site is proposed to be reclaimed to its present use of rangeland upon completion of this mining operation.
The mining operation is not expected to directly affect surface or ground water systems. Previous test pitting
at the site shows that the water table is more than 15 feet below ground surface and is not anticipated to be
encountered during mining operations. In the event that mining exceeds 15 feet in depth, excavation is
proposed to stay a minimum of 2 feet above ground water.
Water requirements for mining and crushing operations and dust control at the site are estimated to be less
than 4,000 gallons per month during operations. Water is proposed to be obtained and hauled from existing
County -owned wells that have been decreed for dust control and industrial uses.
Berms will be constructed around the perimeter of the site to retain onsite surface water runoff. A Colorado
Department of Public Health and Environment Stormwater Construction Permit will be obtained prior to the
start of mining operations.
The applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office with any questions.
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3581 F 303.866.3585 www.water.state.co.us
