higher tolerance of salts in the soils. Once again, these are parameters proposed for the
Bench 1 subsoil. The Division finds the value of </= 15 SAR acceptable.
WF -C is proposing to eliminate the exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) parameter.
Although there is value in determining a separate EC value distinct from the SAR value,
there is correlation between the SAR value and the EC value below values of 50 SAR.
For the purposes of the subsoil testing, the Division concurs that WF -C may eliminate
analyzing for ESP.
WF -C is also proposing to reduce the acceptable calcium carbonate percentage from 40%
to 20%. The Division is in agreement with this change.
The Division concurs with the approved changes to Table 2.05.4(2)(4)-1.
The Division noted that the WF -C proposes to eliminate reference to analysis methods
found in Permit Section 2.05.4(2)(4). The Division believes this information is valuable
to reduce questions regarding methodology in the future. If WF -C wishes to remove this
information from the text, retention of the information in an appendix or exhibit may be
appropriate.
