PERMIT#: M-1980-170
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: THM
INSPECTION DATE: September 30,2015
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado
Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety. The Bachelor Mine (Syracuse Portal) operation is an active 110(2)
underground mine. The commodity mined is silver. The mine currently consists of 4.4 permitted acres. The
mine site is located approximately 2.5 miles north of Ouray Colorado off of County Road 14. Bachelor
Silvers Mines Company representative Carl Dismant was present during the inspection.
The mine identification sign was observed at the entrance to the mine site and is in compliance with Rule
3.1.12.
The main focus of the inspection was to observe the current conditions of the site and determine if any
issues needed to be addressed.
The primary use of the Syracuse Portal has been a tourist mine however low volume mining takes place on a
regular basis. The Khedive Portal serves a purpose as ventilation and a secondary escape way for the
Syracuse Portal. The Khedive Portal is permitted under a different permit, M-1980-171, also owned by Carl
Dismant. The Syracuse Portal was converted into a tourist mine in the late 1980's. The operator desires to
maintain both of the DRMS reclamation permits with hopes of reactivating the mining operation.
The portal has a water discharge of approximately 100 gallons per minute. The portal water enters Lake
Lenore Estates and does not discharge to a live stream channel. The mine water appeared clear and no
evidence of iron staining or metals precipitation was observed. The operator provided the DRMS a lab
report for the mine water quality which was tested on October 4, 2014. The lab report is enclosed with this
inspection report.
Overall the site was in good condition and no unnecessary debris or trash was observed during the
inspection.
No erosion or sedimentation issues were noted. There are no major or minor drainage issues within the
permit area that warrant addressing.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation
Mining and Safety Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501 phone no.
