Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Director/State Engineer
0102541) Amendment L
RECEIVED
LNOV 252015
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING & SAFETY
This letter is in response to your letter dated September 25, 2015, requesting an amendment to
the approval of the Journey Venture Pit Substitute Water Supply Plan ("SWSP") dated May 19, 2015.
The purpose of this amendment is to update the existing SWSP's projected depletions to the South
Platte River as a result of increased exposed surface area and provide a description of the dewatering
activities at the site and a plan for meeting the resulting lagged depletions. All other consumptive uses
of the original SWSP approved for the Journey Venture Pit will remain the same as in the May 19, 2015
approval. A $257 fee for a renewal request of this SWSP has been paid with the March 27, 2015
submittal (receipt no. 3669004). However that receipt number was not used and receipt no. 3663272
submitted with the original SWSP request was used for the May 19, 2015 approval. Therefore receipt
no. 3669004 was applied towards this amendment.
SWSP Operations
The Applicant intends to begin dewatering operations in October 2015 to facilitate the
construction of a slurry wall around the perimeter of the pit. The dewatering water will be pumped
into a silt pond and a recharge pond located on the SE corner of the property as shown on the
attached Figure 1. As part of this dewatering operation the amount of exposed surface area water
will increase from approximately 0.12 acres to 0.36 acres.
In addition to the description of the dewatering activities and the updates on the projected
evaporation depletions, you indicated that in accordance with approach nos. 1 and 3, of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety ("DRMS") April 30, 2010 letter the Applicant
obtained a bond for $349,524 through the DRMS for Phase 1 of this site to assure that depletions from
groundwater evaporation do not occur in the unforeseen event, or events, that would lead to the
abandonment of the Pit.
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589
www.water.state.co.us
