COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
November 5, 2015
Patrick Maher
Venture Resources Inc.
P.O. Box 1974
Idaho Springs, CO 80452
RE: Hukill Gulch Millsite; DRMS File No. M-2009-076; Technical Revision No. 1 —
Adequacy Review No. 1
Dear Mr. Maher,
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) received Technical Revision No. 1
for the above referenced site on October 29, 2015. The decision date for this Technical Revision
is November 30, 2015. The Division has reviewed the Technical Revision Application and has
the following comments:
1. The Operator has submitted a Weed Control Plan for the management of diffuse knapweed.
In addition to diffuse knapweed, the Division requested the Operator provide a list of noxious
weed species which may potentially occur at the site. The Division has attached a list of
noxious weeds which are known to occur in Clear Creek County. Please commit to
monitoring for the presence of these noxious weed species.
2. The Weed Control Plan specifies that diffuse knapweed will be treated in the spring and fall.
Diffuse knapweed produces seed at a prolific rate and as a result builds up a seed bank in the
soil. Continued monitoring is required even after initial control has been achieved. Please
provide a commitment to conduct annual monitoring of noxious weeds in both the spring and
fall.
3. Evaluation is a critical part of a Weed Control Plan and must be done to determine the
effectiveness of weed control efforts. Noxious weeds may not respond to weed control efforts
for a variety of reasons. Repeated use of herbicides with the same mode of action can lead to
herbicide resistant weeds. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the effectiveness of herbicide
applications. Evaluation may be as simple as walking the property and visually surveying the
treatment areas after an herbicide application has occurred. Please commit to evaluating the
treatment areas after an herbicide application.
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
