West Elk Mine Reclaimed Areas Total Herbaceous Production (2014/2015)
Final Total Vegetation Cover Success Criterion: 180.38 g/m2
2014 Sampling 2015 Sampling
Xbar
226.80
239.30
S
80.90
94.40
N
38
28
Nmin
22
27
Based on the results of the 2014 and 2015 quantitative sampling, the reclaimed areas
exceeded the final revegetation total herbaceous production success criterion of 180.38
g/m2, with sample means greater than 90% of the total herbaceous production final
success criterion.
Species Composition
The final species composition standard requires that there be at least three perennial
species of which two are cool season perennial grasses and one is a cool season perennial
forb. No one component of the above three species should comprise greater than 40%
relative cover nor less than 3% relative cover, during a given year's quantitative
sampling. Vegetation species which may be used in the calculation of species
composition may be any plant species not defined as a noxious or prohibited plant
species, and may be native or introduced.
West Elk Mine Reclaimed Areas Species Composition (2014/2015)
The reclaimed areas eligible for Phase III bond release sampled in 2014 and 2015
exceeded the requirements for species composition, thereby meeting the final
revegetation success criterion and supporting the post -mining land use.
From the summary information above, the reclaimed areas sampled exceeded the final
revegetation success criteria values for total vegetation cover, total herbaceous
production, and species composition in 2014 and 2015, thereby demonstrating that the
permittee has established a diverse, effective, and permanent vegetative cover of the same
seasonal variety as the original vegetation.
Success
Standard
2014 Sampling
2015 Sampling
Total Perennial Species*
3
7
6
(>3% rel. cover)
Cool Season Grasses*
2
4
4
Cool Season Forbs*
1
3
2
Relative Importance
All Species
P
All Species
All Species
(3%<g<40%)
* Numbers reflect only those species meeting the relative importance percentage limitation
